50 Houses for the Rehabilitation of Tsunami Victims
The tsunami destruction inflicted on
Sri Lanka’s North Eastern and Southern Costal Belt on December
26 2004 was the worst natural disaster experienced by the
country in its known history.
The Finco Group of Companies undertook
a significant relief effort during the first week following
the tsunami by supporting the immediate requirements of the
temporary refugee camps on the southern coast. This included
construction of toilet and kitchen facilities and provision
of medicine, food and clothing for displaced persons. As a
Second Phase, ICC - the Group’s construction arm, spearheaded
an initiative to salvage more than 30 fishing boats from the
Galle Port.
As a Third Phase, the Group has embarked
on a long term rehabilitation and resettlement
program, by undertaking the construction
of a housing development project comprising of housing
units, community centre and children’s play ground in
the Weligama area located in Sri Lanka’s Southern coastal
belt to be donated to Tsunami victims. Messers Ursem
Bouwgroep BV, a leading construction company in Netherlands
have also consented to associate with the Finco Group
on this project and has donated 25 houses in kit form
for installation and erection.
The FINCO Group invites other donors as well to
participate in this rehabilitation program. |
