An Appeal for donations
to fund construction of houses to be donated to Tsunami Victims
in the Southern coastal belt of Sri Lanka
Finco Group has decided to
construct and donate 50 low cost houses and also to construct
a community centre and children’s playground to resettle some
of the Tsunami victims of the southern coastal belt. The construction
of the low cost houses would be undertaken by our associate
company International Construction Consortium Limited (ICC),
which company has the expertise and capability of in-house
design and project management.
ICC is a leading multi sector
construction company in Sri Lanka with an ICTAD M1 listing.
ICC has also considerable experience in the provision of low
cost houses and has in-house, the required support services
such as ready-mix concrete plants, precast yards, quarries
and crushers, asphalt production units, and a piling division.
The houses to be constructed will consist of a precast structure
supplied in Kit Form, with wall cladding and flooring done
at site. The floor area of each house is 438 sq ft (41 square
meters). The design of each house provides for living and
dining room, bed room, kitchen, rear verandah and a toilet,
which lay out could be varied according to the needs of the
end user. Internal electrical wiring will also be provided
as well as a septic tank and soakage pit for sewage and waste
water disposal. Photographs of erection of kit form house
and A completed house together with drawings/floor plan, and
detailed specifications are given in annexure attached. Application
has also been made to the relevant State Authorities for allocation
of land required for this project .
We are appealing for
donations from our clients, principals and friends to fund
the cost of some of these housing units. Each house would
cost Rs 411,756/- (US$ 4,159/-).
A separate fund for receipts
of donations and disbursements has been set up. This fund
would be managed by NDB Investment Bank, a subsidiary of the
NDB Bank Limited of Sri Lanka who has consented to associate
with our Group as the fund managers. Two Bank accounts, one
for US Dollars overseas donations and another for Sri Lanka
Rupee donations have been opened with the NDB Bank Ltd. The
foreign currency US Dollar account is in the name of Orient
Garments Limited Tsunami Resettlement Account, A/c No. 500081001815.
Orient Garments is an associate company of the Finco Group
and is a Sri Lanka Board of Investment approved company authorized
to operate foreign currency accounts. The Rupee account has
been opened in the name of Finco Limited Tsunami Resettlement
Account, A/c No. 900001012667. NDB Investment Bank will administer
these accounts, and make disbursements based on the progress
of construction, subject to certification by a reputed Chartered
Quantity Surveyor.
Overseas donors who wish to
make a donation should send their remittances in favour of
NDB Bank Limited to the credit of Orient Garments Limited
Tsunami Resettlement account No. 500081001815 (swift code
NDBS LKLX). Sri Lanka donors to forward to Finco Limited a
cheque drawn out in favour of NDB Bank Limited to the credit
of Finco Limited Tsunami Resettlement Account No. 900001012667.

The houses constructed from
proceeds of donations received would be donated to Tsunami
victims in the name of the donor, and the donor’s name
would also be inscribed in a plaque fixed on to the respective
house. The community centre which would be constructed would
also have a plaque bearing the names of the principal donors.
